About OpenCrime
OpenCrime publishes recorded crime figures for every county, town, city and neighbourhood in England and Wales. There is no subscription and no account; every figure on the site is open to anyone.
Why it exists
The police publish this data as monthly CSV files on data.police.uk, a format that suits researchers and almost no one else. This site turns those files into pages a person can read. An area page gives the rate per 1,000 residents, the neighbourhoods and streets behind it, every month back to December 2010, and how the recorded cases ended.
The numbers come with their limits attached. Every page names its sources and its period, how the figures work sets out the calculation, and where a police force has missed returns the affected pages state the shortfall at the top rather than letting it read as a fall in crime. Greater Manchester is the extreme case: its force has published no street-level data since 2019, so its pages are built from a separate Home Office release, counted by different rules, and say so.
How current the figures are
Police recorded crime data is published monthly, roughly two months after the month it covers. The figures here cover the 12 months to June 2026 and were last rebuilt on 26 August 2026. Every page carries the same stamp in its footer.
Reuse and corrections
The underlying data is Crown copyright, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and so is everything derived from it here. You are free to reuse it with attribution.
If a figure looks wrong, say so. One automated pipeline builds every page, so a mistake is rarely confined to the page you found it on. Email [email protected] with the page and the figure you are questioning; corrections take effect on the next rebuild.

OpenCrime is built and maintained by one person rather than a newsroom, and it is better that you know that than find it out. Nobody here is checking the figures over anyone's shoulder. What stands in for that is being able to check them yourself: the calculation is set out in full on how the figures work, every dataset is named and linked on data sources, and every area page will hand you its complete monthly history as a CSV.
The site is published by Search Ventures Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 10588553, of which Matthew Hodson is the director. That is who is answerable for what appears here, and the register entry is public, so the claim is one you can check rather than take.
